Not every business owner feels at home in traditional networking groups.
For many dads, work, business and family life can leave little time to build meaningful connections. We wanted to create a space where business owners can grow their network, share experiences, support one another and build genuine friendships along the way.
Why we exist
Why we existBeing a dad in business means holding two roles at once: a fierce love for your kids and an equally fierce ambition for your work. Both are real. Both deserve room. And both can be wonderfully exhausting. The people closest to you might love you completely - and still not quite get what running a business while parenting actually looks like.
The vision
We wanted to build somewhere dads could turn up exactly as they are: ambitious, hands full, doing brilliant things. A community that celebrates wins, holds space for the hard bits, and keeps each member moving forward. Not networking as a performance - a real team of dads rooting for each other.
How it began
Built By Dads began when Chris and Grainne Dunne, owner of Mums in Business Network, recognised that while there were plenty of networking groups, there wasn't a community designed specifically for dads in business.
Inspired by the success of Mums in Business, Built By Dads was created to offer the same sense of belonging, support and opportunity, but in a way that reflects how many men prefer to connect, collaborate and build relationships.
About Chris
Chris first founded CS Installs Plumbing & Heating nearly two decades ago, building the company from the ground up into a respected Kent-based business known for hard work, reliability and a genuine commitment to doing things properly.
Although he would never naturally describe himself this way, Chris is a seasoned entrepreneur with more than 15 years' experience building, running and supporting businesses across a variety of sectors, including the trades, wine, aesthetics, tattooing, securities and insurance.
Over that time, he has learned that business ownership is about far more than ideas and ambition. It is about pressure, responsibility, risk, resilience and the ability to keep moving forward when things are difficult. Chris now sits on the board of three enterprises and holds majority ownership in several others, giving him a genuine, first-hand understanding of what it takes to build and sustain a business.
Despite that, Chris is known for keeping a relatively low profile. He has never been someone driven by titles or status. Above all else, he is a dad first.
As a primary parent to his two children, Chris understands first-hand the reality of trying to grow a business while still being present, dependable and emotionally available at home. He knows that business ownership can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also feel lonely at times, especially when you are trying to balance ambition with responsibility.
That personal experience is a big part of what inspired Built By Dads.
Chris recognised that many dads and male business owners are carrying more than people realise. They are building companies, supporting families, managing pressure and often doing it quietly, without much space to speak openly or connect with others who truly understand.
Built By Dads was created to change that.
Chris wanted to build the kind of community he would have valued himself: a space where dads and male business owners can make genuine connections, share ideas, support one another and grow their businesses alongside people who understand the journey.
No egos. No awkward pitches. No need to perform.
Just real conversations, useful connections and a community built around business, fatherhood and the people trying to balance both.

Do I have to be a dad to join?+
Mostly - the community is built for fathers in business. We also welcome dads-to-be, step-dads, and male carers juggling family responsibilities with building a business. The common thread is the juggle.
I'm not very extroverted. Is this still for me?+
Absolutely. So many of our members would describe themselves as introverts - we run warm, welcoming events with thoughtful formats so you're never thrown into a sea of strangers. There's always a friendly face to land you, and you can dip in at your own pace.
What kind of businesses do members run?+
Everything from coaches and consultants to founders, freelancers, makers and service businesses. The common thread is ambition.
Is it just for established business owners?+
Not at all. Whether you're getting started, going part-time around the kids, or scaling up, you'll find your people here.
Where do events happen?+
Across Kent - currently Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge. All venues are easy to get to and well chosen.
What if I can't make every event?+
No pressure at all. Pick the membership tier that matches how often you'd realistically like to come, and use the rest of your time to connect with members online - life happens, and we get it.
Can I bring my kids?+
No - this is a space for you to be fully focused on yourself and the growth of your business. Taking that time out occasionally is what helps us show up as better business owners and better dads.
Can I try an event before joining?+
Yes - guests are welcome at selected events for a small ticket fee, so you can get a feel for the room before committing to membership.
